Rainforest supports testing native Android phone and tablet applications in both portrait and landscape orientation.
Installing your application
You will need a link to your Android APK and one or two steps at the beginning of each mobile test to guide your testers through the installation of your app.
Your steps should look something like this:
1. ACTION: Go to "[URL TO APK]" Allow the download to complete, then click the downward facing arrow in the top left and drag down.
QUESTION: Do you see text reading: “[NAME OF FILE] Download Complete."?
2. ACTION: Click on [NAME OF FILE].apk. Click the "Next" button, then click "Install" and finally press "Open".
QUESTION: Do you see the application open?
Can I reuse my existing tests?
In most cases, the instructions for your mobile tests will be slightly different than your desktop application. Considering download instructions for the APK, interface and any functionality differences, your steps are unlikely to be exactly the same between the two test types.
We recommend that you create mobile-specific tests, and name them in such a way that you can clearly distinguish between similar desktop tests. That said, in many cases, you can (and should!) reuse the work that you have already done.
If you have tests already in place, and your mobile version is similar to your desktop application you can simply copy and edit what you have. Select the existing test from the tests list with the checkbox, and click "Duplicate test" in the top menu. You can then rename and edit the duplicated test with minimal extra work!
